2.1 PERMANENT VISAS

Permanent Visas apply to people who wish to live in Australia on a permanent basis. As a guide,
permanent Visas are available to persons who:

- Are able to contribute their skills and experience which are in demand in Australia, or
- Are willing to start a business in Australia which would be of benefit to Australia, or
- Have a relationship or family ties with an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident (PR)


Skills and Experience

These may come in the form of Business skills or Professional (Tertiary or Trade) qualifications. Though
formal training is not a pre-requisite for trades people, its absence does make it more difficult for them to
prove they have the necessary skills and knowledge suitable for migration.

Under the skilled visa stream, applicants will typically be required to pass a points test.

The following attributes will contribute positively towards a general skilled visa application:

- You have the skills and experience that are in demand in Australia
- You have English skills
- Your spouse has a skill that is indemand in Australia
- You are sponsored / nominated by a family member who is an Australian citizen or PR
- You have received a job offer from an Australian employer
- You are less than 45 years old

A skills matching facility is available to help regional employers or State/Territory Government agencies identify
people who have applied to migrate to Australia, and who may possibly fill specific skilled work vacancies.
